SHINE: Empowering Indian Professionals for Global Success

India has made significant strides in various fields, earning a global reputation for excellence in science, technology, and management education. Despite abundant opportunities at home, many young professionals seek employment abroad, particularly in Western economies like the U.S., Europe, South-East Asia, and Australia. This trend is driven by a desire for better career opportunities, higher pay, quality of life, and global exposure.

In recent years, the allure of working abroad has seen a notable dip. According to a study, the percentage of Indians willing to work overseas declined from 78% in 2020 to 54% in 2023. However, the National Overseas Information Centre in Ahmedabad reports that approximately 30,000-40,000 students from Gujarat still leave the country annually to pursue higher education, work, or employment abroad. A significant majority (60-70%) of these students head to the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.

The primary motivation for seeking opportunities abroad includes better career prospects, higher salaries, and enhanced living conditions. Working overseas provides exposure to international work practices, professional growth, and the chance to build a global network. However, these benefits come with challenges that require substantial support.

To thrive abroad, Indian professionals and students need support in language proficiency, cultural adjustment, career guidance, legal and administrative assistance, financial planning, and mental and emotional well-being.
